Well Done.

Well done Cook Family.  We made it through our third summer vacation.  Melbourne Beach, Florida check.  Austin, Texas check.  Amelia Island, Florida check.

This may sound silly, but it was a big deal for me.  I am an anxious person and my fuse has been shortened this year by pre-maybe-who knows for sure: menopause.  It is never an easy task to do a day when you’re not quite sure how your mind and body will react.  It depends on careful planning, acceptance of change, and diligent prep daily via Bible reading or devotionals that inspire me as sources of encouragement to zap me back to faith.

To make it to the “done part” of the day—meditation, prayer, and reading help.

The encouragement has been flowing well.  I loved plowing through the book by Kelly Balarie called Battle Ready.  I finished that one in early July.  It was an awesome non-fiction read which I was fortunate enough to read early as a part of her launch team.  It changed my thinking to be intensely focused on God instead of emotions.

Emotions make you feel done, but faith makes you ready to attack tough days.

The tough days have been peppered with varied schedules which on a positive note leave us with some free time.  So…..I have also enjoyed a 50 cent used book store find to get me into a fictional place.  The book comes from Norway—Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder.  This mystery combines itself with philosophy education.  Loving the way he intertwines these two genres, I have been zoning out into a little world where a 15 year old girl tries to find out more about her own life and the history of our world.

I believe I’m well over my Five Minute Friday writing time limit so I’ll wrap it up.  I am also a day late, writing on a Saturday.  But, hey it’s summer!  I’ll leave you with some book quotes from my summer reads:

“Insecurity blinds the eye of ministry.” –Kelly Balarie, Battle Ready

“Almost every discovered piece of gold first lived in mud.” –Kelly Balarie, Battle Ready

“Yes, we too are stardust.”
Jostein Gaarder, Sophie’s World
“Where both reason and experience fall short, there occurs a vacuum that can be filled by faith.”
Jostein Gaarder, Sophie’s World

May you find some time to reflect, read, and photograph your summer moments.

    I love this thought.

“Emotions make you feel done, but faith makes you ready to attack tough days.”

I need to remember this when I feel overwhelmed. I am your neighbor at Five Minute Friday.
