Is My Child Safe?

Is my child safe?  We moms and dads worry about the safety of our children from time to time.  Will they be physically safe?  Stranger danger…broken bones…car accidents.  Will they be emotionally safe?  Bullies…mean spirited comments…overhearing something that hurts their feelings because it is about them.  Will they be spiritually safe?  Doubt…fear…sinful nature…temptations.

The temptation for me is to fear and worry.  However, I try hard to lift those fears and worries up to the Lord.  He ultimately is in control…not me.  He’s got the whole world in his hands.  He’s got the little bitty babies in His hands.  Yesterday at work I found out a co-worker was celebrating the life of her little one.  “Angel day” for her was when her daughter went to be with the Lord.  What?  She was at work and yet still posted about her Angel Baby on Facebook.  Yes.  She has moved forward in her life with another child and so many more days than one can count.  Life is hard.  Our children are vulnerable to death just as much as you and me.

The death of a child makes no sense to me.  This past year I know three families that have lost a child.  Their sons were taken from them suddenly and unexpectedly.  Death is like that.  It is a dash of life moving onto Heaven.  Our child is still safe though.  Even in death.  I believe in a Big Father God who loves all the little and large people of this world.  Those that believe in Him go on to be safe in the Kingdom of Heaven.  That is the good news.  That is a hope I can cling to.  That is grace made full.

Blessed be your glorious name, exalted above all blessing and praise! You’re the one, God, you alone; You made the heavens, the heavens of heavens, and all angels; The earth and everything on it, the seas and everything in them; You keep them all alive; heaven’s angels worship you!

  1. Jennifer, like you, I find the loss of a child difficult to comprehend. And yet, we know that our God is with us in all things. May we come to the place where we trust Him with our little ones – both children and grandchildren. Yes, it continues to the next generation too 🙂

  2. These are difficult thoughts especially because we try so hard as moms to keep our children safe and protected, but ultimately, they are not ours and are in much more capable hands than ours. And it’s hard to let go and rest in that sometimes (I have a child with anaphylactic allergies so the reality of life-threatening reactions shakes me to my core at times). We will continue holding our children tight for the moments that we have them and be loving friends to those who have had to let go before they were ever ready.

  3. Two of my friends got pregnant and lost babies this past year too. It’s so hard to understand. Great post friend. I’m in the 62 spot this week.

    1. I am so sympathetic to those that lose children. It is something no one wants to face.

  4. I can’t imagine what it is like to lose a child. Each morning I wake and get to be a mom one more day I feel blessed. Hope that I can take advantage of the gift I have been given.
