Open His Story and Your Own

word

Today I opened my Bible study over lunch.  1 John 2:12-14 “I am Writing to You.”

The verse that struck me the most was verse 13b and 14b…

1 John 2:12-14New International Version (NIV)

Reasons for Writing

12 I am writing to you, dear children,
because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.
13 I am writing to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.
I am writing to you, young men,
because you have overcome the evil one.

14 I write to you, dear children,
    because you know the Father.
I write to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
    because you are strong,
and the word of God lives in you,
and you have overcome the evil one.

“I am writing to you, young men (woman), because you have overcome the evil one.” 13b

“I write to you young men, (woman) because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.” 14b

I am opening my story through my blog.  I have overcome the evil one.  I was in a spiritual battle for my soul and my life after our second son was born.  I battled deep post partum depression and anxiety to the point of thoughts of suicide.  I was hospitalized twice, and I know the Spirit and others prayed on my behalf.  I prayed too.  Over many months I became strong.  The Word dwelled in me then, and it dwells in me now.

What dwells in you?

Will you open your story to Him and others?

To overcome you must be strong in the Word, the Bible, and the words within it and the peace it brings will make your spirit resilient to the evil in this world and in each of us.  Jesus came to teach us, love us, and gracefully forgive us through the blood on the cross.

Dear God,

You are the Story Writer.

Forgive us when we try to author our own lives.

Give us wisdom to pause, pray, and read Your Word.

Thank you for having me open it today.

Amen.
