My husband had a brilliant idea last week. We talked it over, and then we told it to our kids one night at dinner this week because we forgot to last week. Falling back into motion, we are up everyday before dawn…but rushing out the door to work and the school bus.
Enter in Husband’s idea worthy of sharing…
All kids have to be off their respective screens at 7 a.m. No more PC Minecraft squeezed between the morning routing by our 8 year old son. No more Bike Race, You Tube video watching, bowling app or whatever peaks our 5 year old for that respective week. Seven a.m. hits…the boys have to eat breakfast, get dressed, brush teeth, make beds, feed pets, etc. Shoes and socks must be on too. Then, if they have spare time they can do a little more screen time. It has worked beautifully this week.
No guarantees for the weeks ahead. Parenting is a constant modification of rules, routines, and all for us at least. We do let our kids play on PC and tablet games…but just like adults we need screen breaks to get stuff done! We also need time for real FACE TIME with our family. So…what do you do to put parameters in place for screen time (TV/tablet/PC/video games) etc? I welcome your suggestions!
Creepers keep creeping. Parents keep parenting. Steve battle on! Apps are great…but do not let app take charge of your life or your children’s appetites for play time and creativity.
