In Community Bible Study this week, we were asked to create an acrostic with words that come to mind when you think of “His rest.”  We are studying Hebrews.  I really liked this assignment.  I’m still pondering it today…
“Therefore, since the promise of entering his REST still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.” Hebrews 4:1

Rest appears 508 times in the NIV version of a BibleGateway search.  Some of my favorites are below:

Genesis 2:2

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.

Hey, even God rested!

Joshua 21:44

The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hands.
We are still at war.  I pray for our world, our soldiers, and for us in our private battles with THE ENEMY.  Thankful the Lord gives rest.
Jeremiah 50:6

“My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray and caused them to roam on the mountains. They wandered over mountain and hill and forgot their own resting place.”
We are lost.  We need The Shepherd.  He gives us rest.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
